Quality Inspector
Responsibilities

Conduct visual inspections of metal products or components at various stages of the fabrication or manufacturing process to identify any defects, inconsistencies, or non-conformities.

Perform dimensional measurements using precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, or gauges, to verify product accuracy and adherence to specifications.

Utilize non-destructive testing techniques, such as ultrasonic testing or magnetic particle inspection, to detect internal defects or structural irregularities.

Conduct surface inspections using techniques like dye penetrant testing or visual inspection under appropriate lighting conditions.
-
Perform hardness testing, tensile testing, or other mechanical tests to assess metal strength and mechanical properties.

Follow established inspection procedures, checklists, or work instructions to perform accurate and consistent inspections.

Record and document inspection results, including any defects or non-compliance identified, using appropriate forms, reports, or databases.

Collect representative samples of metal materials, alloys, or finished products for laboratory testing or analysis.

Perform various tests, such as chemical composition analysis, metallurgical analysis, or corrosion resistance testing, using specialized equipment or testing methods.

Evaluate test results against established specifications or industry standards to determine compliance and identify any deviations or issues.

Assist in the development and implementation of testing protocols, procedures, or specifications to ensure accurate and reliable test results.

Monitor and assess metal fabrication or manufacturing processes to identify potential quality issues or process variations.

Collect and analyze data, such as process parameters, material characteristics, or machine settings, to assess process stability and identify opportunities for improvement.

Collaborate with production personnel, engineers, or supervisors to implement corrective actions or process adjustments to improve product quality and consistency.
Qualifications and Skills

High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in metallurgy, quality assurance, or a related field is preferred.

Experience in quality control or inspection roles within a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of metal materials, alloys, manufacturing processes, and quality control techniques.

Proficiency in using precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, or non-destructive testing equipment.

Understanding of metallurgical principles and mechanical testing methods.
-
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, or quality standards.
-
Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC) principles and data analysis.
-
Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and analyze quality issues.
-
Good communication skills, both verbal and written

Basic math and geometry skills

Able to read 2D and 3D dimensioned drawings for sheet metal fabrications
-
Be able to use basic measuring tools (tape measure, dial calipers, protractor)
-
Must know basic tolerancing processes

Familiar with ISO 9000 practices

Work in an organized and communitive fashion

Maintain a dependable work schedule

Pay rate is $18-$20 per hour depending on experience
