Processing Technician-Plastic Injection Molding

The Plastic Injection Molding Processing Technician is responsible for establishing, optimizing, and maintaining plastic injection molding processes to ensure consistent production of high-quality molded parts. This role focuses on process control, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement while supporting production, quality, and engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, set, and optimize plastic injection molding processes for new and existing molds

  • Establish process parameters including temperature, pressure, speed, clamp force, and cycle time

  • Perform mold start-ups, validations, and first-piece inspections

  • Troubleshoot molding defects such as flash, short shots, sinks, warp, burns, and cosmetic issues

  • Monitor and maintain process stability during production runs

  • Analyze process data and implement corrective actions to reduce scrap and downtime

  • Support mold trials, material trials, and process improvement initiatives

  • Collaborate with tooling, engineering, quality, and maintenance departments

  • Create and maintain process documentation, setup sheets, and change logs

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (ISO, IATF, FDA, GMP as applicable)

  • Train and support molding operators as needed

Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or plastics certification preferred

  • 3+ years of plastic injection molding processing experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of thermoplastics, mold design, and molding theory

  • Experience with scientific molding and process validation is a plus

  • Ability to read blueprints, part drawings, and process documentation

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
