Process Technician

A plastics process technician is a skilled professional responsible for overseeing and optimizing plastic injection molding processes. They play a crucial role in setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting plastic injection molding machines to ensure efficient and high-quality production of plastic parts. The process technician collaborates with engineers, operators, and other team members to achieve production targets and maintain consistent process performance. 

Responsibilities
  • Set up plastic injection molding machines, including the installation and adjustment of molds, and ensure proper alignment and connection of components.

  • Define and optimize process parameters, such as injection speed, temperature, pressure, cooling time, and cycle time, to achieve desired part quality and production efficiency.

  • Conduct mold trials, collect process data, and analyze results to identify areas for improvement and optimize the process.

  • Monitor machine operations and process variables continuously to ensure stable and consistent production.

  • Perform regular inspections of molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment to detect abnormalities, such as wear, damage, or leaks, and take corrective actions as necessary.

  • Utilize process control tools and techniques, such as statistical process control (SPC), to monitor and maintain process stability and capability.

  • Collaborate with quality control personnel to establish and maintain quality control measures, including performing dimensional checks and other tests as required.

  • Identify and resolve process-related issues, such as flash, short shots, dimensional defects, or variations in part quality.

  • Conduct root cause analysis to investigate and resolve process deviations or non-conformities.

  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical issues affecting process performance.

  • Propose and implement corrective actions to address process inefficiencies, reduce scrap rates, and improve overall productivity.

  • Maintain accurate records of process parameters, adjustments, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Generate reports on process performance, including production output, cycle times, scrap rates, and downtime analysis.

  • Document process changes and updates, ensuring proper version control and documentation management.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and promote a safe working environment by following established guidelines and procedures.

  • Monitor and maintain quality control measures to ensure molded parts meet specifications.

  • Collaborate with quality control personnel to investigate and resolve quality issues.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety.

Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in plastics processing is preferred.

  • Proven experience as a plastics process technician or similar role in a manufacturing environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of plastic injection molding machines, molds, and related equipment.

  • Strong understanding of plastic materials, their behavior, and processing characteristics.

  • Proficiency in setting up and optimizing process parameters for injection molding.

  • Experience with process monitoring and control techniques, such as SPC.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues.

  • Familiarity with quality control principles and practices.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.

Benefits/Compensation

  • 2nd or 3rd Shift

  • Pay Rate is $17-$24 per hour

  • Weekly pay while employed through Career Concepts

  • Benefits available after probation
