Plastics Mold Setter

A plastics mold setter is a skilled technician responsible for the setup, maintenance, and operation of plastic injection molding machines. They play a crucial role in ensuring that molds are properly installed, adjusted, and calibrated for efficient production of high-quality plastic parts. The mold setter collaborates with engineers, production supervisors, and other team members to meet production targets and maintain a smooth manufacturing process.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare the mold for installation by inspecting and cleaning it thoroughly.

  • Safely install molds into injection molding machines, ensuring proper alignment and connection of components.

  • Adjust machine settings, such as temperature, pressure, and cycle time, based on mold requirements.

  • Test mold functionality and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired part quality.\

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on molds, such as cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of worn parts.

  • Identify and troubleshoot mold-related issues, such as flash, short shots, or dimensional defects.

  • Coordinate mold repair activities, including disassembly, part replacement, and reassembly, to minimize downtime.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and promote a safe working environment by following established guidelines and procedures.

  • Conduct regular inspections of molds and equipment to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

  • Monitor and maintain quality control measures to ensure molded parts meet specifications.

  • Collaborate with quality control personnel to investigate and resolve quality issues.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Proven experience as a plastics mold setter or similar role in a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding machines, molds, and related equipment.

  • Proficiency in mold installation, adjustment and troubleshooting.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality products.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
