Medical Assistant
As a Medical Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare professionals, ensuring the smooth operation of medical facilities, and providing quality patient care. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of clinical and administrative tasks to contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
1. Patient Care:

Escort and prepare patients for examination or treatment.

Record vital signs, medical history, and other relevant information.

Assist healthcare providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.

Administer medications under the direction of a physician.
2. Administrative Duties:
-
Schedule and coordinate patient appointments.
-
Manage patient records and ensure accurate documentation.
-
Handle billing, coding, and insurance-related tasks.
-
Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide information to patients.
3. Clinical Procedures:
-
Perform basic laboratory tests and procedures.
-
Prepare and maintain medical instruments and equipment.
-
Assist in minor surgical procedures and wound care.

Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
4. Communication:
-
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Relay important information between patients and physicians.

Provide clear instructions to patients regarding medications and treatments.
5. Compliance and Regulations:

Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations and compliance standards.

Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.

Stay informed about updates in medical procedures and guidelines.
6. Team Collaboration:

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
7. Equipment and Supplies Management:

Order, organize, and maintain medical supplies.

Ensure that medical equipment is properly sterilized and functioning.

Report any equipment malfunctions or deficiencies.
8. Professional Development:

Stay updated on medical advancements and attend relevant training sessions.

Pursue continuing education opportunities to enhance skills.
Qualifications and Skills
-
Must be a graduate of a medical assistant program.
-
Must be a Certified Medical Assistant.
-
Must be certified, and continue to remain certified, to perform CPR.

Excellent patient care skills.
-
Verbal and written skills necessary to communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers, patients, insurance companies and physician office personnel.

Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to perform physical assessment of the patient including the ability to perform the following: obtain vital signs; respond to patient reports and requests; describe wounds, drainages, lesions, etc.; read labels, gauges, dials and equipment alarms; perceive changes in skin color; identify medications and solutions; and, administer medications and injections.

Physical skills: must possess the degree of total body strength and flexibility necessary to assist patients with transfers and mobility. Must be able to stretch, reach, and retrieve equipment and supplies.

Ability to maintain or project a positive image in telephone interactions with patients, coworkers and third parties.
