Water and Sewer Maintenance Technician
The Water and Sewage Maintenance position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of related equipment and facilities, as well as utility billing, cross-connection, and all related regulatory responsibilities. This role oversees the operation and maintenance of wastewater and water infrastructure and other facilities in coordination with department heads, supervisors, and consultants. Significant emphasis is placed on maximizing efficiency and operational effectiveness. The position requires considerable independent judgment and initiative.
Responsibilities

Oversee all functions related to water and sewage operations.

Manage the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of piping, water hydrants, gate valves, gate wells, manholes, sewer lines, pumps, and related systems.

Recommend priorities and develop procedures to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness

Review major operational changes and challenges with supervisory staff.

Evaluate operational needs such as parts, materials, and equipment.

Oversee installation, maintenance, repair, and reading of water meters for industrial, commercial, and residential accounts.

Assist with and perform project management for technology and infrastructure related to water and sewer operations, including preparing and delivering presentations at public hearings and meetings.

Ensure compliance with regulations related to water and sewage operations.

Maintain records and prepare reports for regulatory compliance and applicable laws.

Enforce safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
-
Coordinate resolution of customer complaints and service requests.
-
Serve as liaison to regulatory entities at the state, regional, and local levels.

Advise supervisors on infrastructure-related matters.
-
Maintain effective working relationships with peers and professional contacts within and outside the organization.

Represent the organization’s interests at relevant commissions, committees, and industry events.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Be available to respond to operational problems, equipment emergencies, storms, power outages, and other urgent situations after normal working hours, including weekends and holidays.
Qualifications and Skills

High school diploma or equivalent.

Successful completion of formal certification training related to water and sewage management, including a current water works operator’s certification (must be obtained within six (6) months of hire).

Valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B, with air brake qualification and current CDL Physical Card.

Participation in a random drug and alcohol testing program in accordance with applicable CDL laws.

Clear, safe driving record for a minimum of three (3) years.

Strong knowledge of policies, procedures, equipment, and materials required for effective operation, maintenance, and repair of water distribution systems.

Understanding of utility billing and regulations related to water systems.

Availability for emergency duties outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred: experience in water and sewer field operations and maintenance.

Demonstrates the highest standards of internal and external customer service.

Ability to drive and operate all sizes of work vehicles, including snow plows.

Ability to manually lift and carry at least 65 pounds.

Ability to safely and efficiently perform all assigned and additional duties with minimal supervision.
